What is Osteoarcheology?

Osteoarchaeology is the study of human and animal skeletal remains within the archaeological record.

The analysis of human bones and teeth provides a wealth of information to archaeologists with regards to past societies, such as diet, economy, health, social status, trade and the environment of populations.

Animal bones and teeth can be studied to provide an insight into human and animal interaction. The determination of an animal’s age, sex and size can provide evidence of exploitation within human populations.
